Candle making is an art that has been important to human civilization for many thousands of years. Ancient civilizations ranging from China to Egypt and Rome were all known to have used wicked candles for lighting their homes, traveling at night, and they were also commonly used in various ceremonies as well. Until the dawn of the 20th century, when electricity use became widespread, candles were the primary light source for most of the planet.

While most people throughout the world rely on electrically powered light sources for their everyday needs, candle making is still a fairly large industry. Many people prefer the ambience of candlelight to incandescent or florescent light, as it is generally less harsh on the eyes and can be quite soothing and relaxing. Furthermore, burning candles is also commonly cited as a means of cleaning and purifying the air.

Of course, candles do not necessarily have to come from a store, as candle making can be done quite easily from home. The process is relatively simple, and requires very few items in order to get started. There are also numerous instructional books and videos that can be used to explain the process and offer tips and advice on creating your own unique candles.
