The soy candle is a relative newcomer to the candle industry in general. These candles are often heralded as being "100% natural" and are often cited as being a better option than beeswax or paraffin wax candles. However, this is largely a misnomer, as most experts agree that soy is not necessarily any more "natural" than any other kind of commonly used candle wax.
The first thing that should be recognized about a soy candle is that it is not a 100 percent natural product. Chemicals are required in order to produce the waxy byproduct from the soybean that is used in candle making; and if it is a scented candle, even more chemicals are required. Now, this being said, these candles are still perfectly safe for use around the house and are generally non-toxic, just like those made from beeswax or paraffin.
A soy candle can be found in many different varieties. From small votive candles to the largest of pillar candles, soy is becoming a more commonly used type of wax and is very popular with candle buyers all over the country. Furthermore, they can be purchased from just about any retailer that carries more traditional candles.
